Who writes here
I’m Lingye. I spent a decade living in Shanghai and I’m now based in Taipei, so I’ve done daily life across Asia — the apartments, the apps, the banks, the trains, the food, the small frictions a guidebook never mentions. I’ve been investing for about fifteen years, and I use AI heavily every day, including the Asian models most Western coverage never tries.
Most of what you read about Asia online is written by people who flew in for a week, or never went at all. I started MyLing to write the opposite: first-hand, specific, and honest about the parts that are genuinely hard — the VPN reality, the payment apps, what an Asian AI tool is actually good at, how an outside investor really gets exposure. I’d rather tell you what I’ve seen than repeat what everyone copies from everyone.

What I write about
Four pillars, every one of them seen through an Asia lens — written for readers who don’t live here.
- AI — ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, plus the Chinese models most Western coverage skips: DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, Doubao. Which one actually wins each job, how to reach the China-only ones from outside, and the data and censorship caveats. Plus the AI that genuinely helps you travel, invest, and live across Asia.
- Smart Money — Asia stocks, ADRs and ETFs for outside investors, Shanghai-vs-Taipei cost of living, moving money around Asia, and earning online from Asia. Fifteen years investing, reported from inside the market.
- Asia Travel — first-hand Asia trips plus the realities of moving around Asia that nobody explains well: visa-free transit, the Great Firewall VPN reality, eSIMs and SIMs, Alipay and WeChat for foreigners.
- Asia Culture — food, festivals, etiquette, language and daily life across Asia: the context that makes a trip or a move make sense. Lived, not Wikipedia’d.
Not here: AI hype with no use case, generic “best of” lists, second-hand takes, or financial, legal and medical advice dressed up as a guide.
MyLing and MyLing Asia
MyLing is part of a small publishing family. The split is by audience, not by topic:
- MyLing (this site) — written for a Western, English-speaking audience (plus a Spanish edition), focused on Asia: AI, money, travel and culture across the region.
- MyLing Asia — written for an India, Southeast Asia and Gulf audience, in English and Hindi, covering the AI tools, travel, money and culture that matter for that region.
Same standard, different reader. If you want Asia from someone who’s actually lived here, you’re in the right place.
How I write and check
AI helps me research, outline and draft. It doesn’t make the recommendations, invent examples, or replace the final edit.
- First-hand first. Where I’ve done it myself — a crossing, a payment app, a model, a market — that’s what the article is built on.
- Claims sourced, not guessed. Visa rules, pricing, policies and numbers are checked against primary sources: official policy pages, vendor docs, exchange filings, my own records.
- The hard parts named. The frictions and caveats are real — I don’t smooth them over to make a topic sound easier than it is.
- Final human read before publish — see the editorial policy and the AI content policy for the full standard.
Affiliates and sponsorships
Some links — VPNs, eSIMs, booking and travel tools — are affiliate links, and they don’t change the recommendation: I only point to things I’d use myself. Any sponsored piece is labelled at the top. No paid rankings, no paid backlinks, no undisclosed paid mentions inside editorial articles. Full standard: editorial policy.
